Hi! Anyone have advice on getting a cordless power drill for general home use?

What are decent drills around 拢80-拢100?

I have no idea about drills! I have used a cord one before a few times and it was a hammer drill, if that makes a difference? Sensible answers plase! Thanks! XXXHi! Anyone have advice on getting a cordless power drill for general home use?
Whatever you do don't buy a Craftsmen. They don't last. I use a Dewalt but it you are just going to be using it around the house Black and Decker will be OK. And remember you get what you pay for. I've seen very inexpensive battery drills but the just don't last.Hi! Anyone have advice on getting a cordless power drill for general home use?
Suggest you get one of the newer Lithium Battery models as household use is infrequent compared to Professional Trade.

Lithium batteries prefer to be fully charged at all times and are not victum to ';Battery Memory'; failures that the older nickel-hydrid battery systems are.

DeWalt is what the Pros use a lot - excellent quality, Black %26amp; Decker makes some decent ones for household use.

Try to skip Ryobi and any no-name brands - cheap but poor quality.
Porter Cable, 19.2v, hands down. (i have three), 1/2'; chuck, hammer-drill setting, more torque than most corded models.
For your price range you have a good choice. Rather than try and name a particular drill for you I will list a couple of features that you should look out for.

Get at least a 12v, preferably a 14.5v drill (18v if your budget will stretch). The higher the battery voltage the more power it will deliver and the longer the battery will last between charges.

Buy a spare battery at the same time as you buy the drill. This could cost over 拢10 but is well worth it. They always run down in the middle of a job so you can keep a charged spare all the time. Charging from flat could take several hours and you wouldn't want to be left stranded.

Make sure that you have a 1/2'; (13mm) chuck. If you have a smaller one you will soon regret it when the occasion arises that you have to drill a larger hole; such as when you're installing a lock for example.

If you have a cordless hammer drill then you must certainly consider the battery life and power. Hammer drills can be more hungry than just rotary drilling.

Buy a drill from a reputable supplier who can offer support if ot goes ';phut!';.

For amateur use you do not to spend the huge amounts of money that high-range products from Bosch or DeWalt would cost. They will be lighter, more robust, more accurate and will last considerably longer than ';domestic'; quality. This is important for someone who's livelyhood depends on the tool but overkill for home use. Also, do not buy the very cheapo stuff because it may be too low quality and may break if you put the occasional excess force.

Have a look at the ';Pro'; range from Toolstation (link below). They're a reputable mail order trader, who also has shops that you can visit if there's one near you.
panasonic is one of the best but when you are looking dont worry too much about voltage its the amp hour thats the most important
if you want to drill walls then its best to get a hammer drill, if its just for wood and screws then get with out hammer, best to get 24v, can get cheaper then 拢80 i got one from woolworths and it cost 拢40 and came with spare battery
I would suggest a panasonnic, cordless drill, don't ask for the model, any will do, they are excellent for about the house and DIY, no more screwdrivers either!
The better the battery the better the drill
For general (and occasional) work around the house, a 12 volt will work well. I have had a Black and Decker 12 volt for years. You need to read the directions concerning charging the battery as far as ';memory loss';. Get good bits for it. This is half the battle with any drill motor.
It might be a little bit outside your price range at 拢160 but why not go for a Bosch GSB18VE2 Professional model. This is what all the joiners and builders use and it will last forever. Also comes with a 3 year warranty if registered online. It's an 18 volt cordless combi drill and comes with charger and 3 batteries.

* Max. drilling diameter in wood: 35 mm

* Max. drilling diameter in steel: 13 mm

* Max. drilling diameter in masonry: 14 mm
Kyal_Tay has given you your best answer..
you do not need a 24v drill for use around the house, the minimum i would suggest is 14.4v or an 18v that's all you need. most drills now have hammer action for use when drilling into masonry. As for makes i would get a Bosch 18.v. you can buy these with a spare battery and charger plus case for under a 100 quid from bnq they will do everything you want and alot more.
i agree with the previous answer

and it only takes about an hour to charge up and it has a 13mm keyless chuck instead of the conventional 10mm keyed/keyless chuck which makes it quicker and easier to change the bits over

i have 1 and i highly reccomend it to any 1
i would get one that you feel comfortable holding that's in your price range,

first go to the d.i.y store and test all the ones you can.

Everyone is different so no drill is for everyone, i personally use JCB because they are unbreakable and feel comfortable in my hands.

as for hammer action most drills these days come with hammer action unless you buy a really cheap drill (Woolworth's) which will just do the basic thing i would not advise buying cheap cheap end it wont last i can assure you.
sorry but I have to disagree about the Ryobi drill, I have a Ryobi 18V that I bought about 5 years ago and I have used the living(bleep) out of it, among other things- a 12 by 20 deck and new drywall in 5 different rooms and I still use it weekly........ no problems at all
for around the house i would definitely get an electric 3/8 drill get the cheapest one they have, I just bought one at lowes for 20$ american, the battery drills do not have enough power, they quit in the middle of most jobs, and with the electric you dont have to worry about those cheap batteries. And you will need a 25 foot extension cord or two. And use around the house is what an average once a month over a couple of years all batteries loose power and all need replaced, not electric?
A Coleman Powermate is great. I use mine for all of my household needs. It keeps a good charge/and you can buy all size bits for it.
Have a look here http://www.screwfix.com/cats/100372/Powe鈥?/a> you will be spoilt for choice and price.
they are excellent.
in the trade we usually use a DeWalt or Makita

I'm about to get my eyebrow pierced in about an hour, any advice?

Just wondering on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst, how bad is it going to hurt? If all you have to say is ';DONT GET ONE, ITS UGLY';, please don't bother replying. I don't feel like hearing your crap, because I'm getting it anyway. I just want some honest answers from people who know that their talking about. Thanks! :) Peace! I have a tattoo already, and three holes in my lower earlobes, and one cartilage piercing on the top.I'm about to get my eyebrow pierced in about an hour, any advice?
Get it done! Why not? My boyfriend has his done and hes had it pierced over 3 times in the same spot so i guess it can't be that bad. It hurts more than ears but you got a tattoo so you should be right! And remember, all pain is temporary and the end result is so totally worth it ;]I'm about to get my eyebrow pierced in about an hour, any advice?
as i have not had my eyebrow pierced i have no basis for comparison, but i would say it probably wouldn't hurt much worse than a naval piercing which is a sharp stick and then you're done. i would say that the healing time will hurt worse than actually getting the piercing done.

and just a little ';good for you'; ... because i want to get my lip pierced and can't because of my job.. *sigh*
Take some pain reliever. In an hour it should have kicked in and help with some of the pain.
you ever try plucking your eyebrows? You get that sting feeling sometimes when you havent done it in a while? You've gotten a tattoo already and other piercings, I figure the tattoo hurts the worst out of all of them.
Just take some pain reliever before going then after. You still shouldnt get one cuz those thing are disgusting!!!!! Plus it would hurt getting one!!

and it nasty.
if i were u, i wouldn't get it because a couple of my friend got it and they wished that they shouldn't done it. IF u going to get it anyway, may sure the place where u getting pierced are professional and clean because u could get infected easily!
ummm i kno u said not to say this BUT DONT GET IT, ITS ALL PEOPLE CAN LOOK AT WHEN THEY TALK TO YOU its ugly and gay not worth it
It will hurt more than an ear, simply because there is less fat there and more nerve endings. Maybe a 7 on average.

The most important thing is to be sure you clean and disinfect it regularly over the first few weeks, just as you would with any new piercing.

Am going to Egypt in june. Have heard dodgy stomachs can ruin your hols, anyone got any advice what to do?

I always get a bad stomach, so just wondered if anyone has got any tips what to take to avoid itAm going to Egypt in june. Have heard dodgy stomachs can ruin your hols, anyone got any advice what to do?
I have been to Egypt and the Middle East while in the Navy...and I did get sick..

Stay away from eating uncooked items, such as Salad, fruits and grains.

Our American stomach can not handle foreign bacterias as Egyptians can...

Drink bottle water as much as possible

Bring so Amonum AD and Peptobismol, just in caseAm going to Egypt in june. Have heard dodgy stomachs can ruin your hols, anyone got any advice what to do?
been to Egypt many times and had a really bad stomach on one occasion. and a dodgy stomach on several occasions.

the best advice i can give to prevent is wash your hands as often as you can after handling money and anything else you are unsure about. do not eat salad or cold food. Eat only in restaurants where you are sure of the hygiene standards, that is most hotels and good restaurants, but avoid the street vendor style of restaurant or salad bar/ buffet meals. take Imodium with you. only eat fruit that can be peeled dont drink too much alcohol, and make sure you drink plenty of water, bottled only, avoid becoming too hot and heat exhaustion, take sensible precautions and you will be fine. if the worst happens then dont be afraid to get the hotel to call a doctor. They will offer you an injection which will make you feel a little better immediately, also anti biotics that are usually very effective. the cost will normally be well under 拢50.
When traveling overseas, always bring an antibiotic,an over the counter anti-diarrhea medicine such as Pep-to Bismol,or IMODIUM.The pep-to Bismol chew ables are very convenient to carry around. Also grapefruit seed extract in liquid form (dropper bottle) is a natural anti fungal, you can use it for prevention and treatment of stomach bugs, and for washing produce.Personal hand sanitizers are also a must, antibacterial baby wipes,or travel size bottles of Purell.Stick to better quality hotels and restaruants that cater to foreigners and avoid road side stalls as a previous answerer mentioned.Always avoid raw produce you cannot peel, and make sure any water you drink comes from a sealed bottle.

Keep a handy list of doctors names in your pocket book, and steer clear of raw salads, and undercooked meats.

Ginger and Ginger tea or peppermint are also helpful for tummy troubles.

best of luck
I am going to Egypt in June too I was told by a friend who has been there that dodgy stomachs there are mainly caused by the food at buffets because its not covered and protected from the fly and mozzies and also the water use bottled water for absolutely everything,he was there for 3 weeks and had no problems
I took first class train from Cairo to Luxor and meal on train gave me and my son stomach upsets that ruined our holiday so you are right to be cautious.

Use bottled water, even for cleaning teeth.

Try to stick to tinned food and fruit.

Westernised hotels e.g. Holiday Inn and Hilton have ok restaurants.

McDonalds chain is ok

Avoid any food from street stalls, cruise boats and trains

Better to be over cautious than sick

Hope you enjoy your holiday, Egypt is a beautiful place.
although you may be cautious of the food, people never think to be cautious of tap water. in morocco for example they chemiclaly treat it, and becuase im not used to it gives me a very bad tummy. so last year i went i had bottle water every day i was there. and i was fine.

watch out for ice creams and lollypops the water tehy ise is often from taps :)
eat in restaurants / cafeterias that have a recognized name .

take with you medication that would clean an upset stomach .

drink and brush your teeth with bottled water .

have a safe trip.
they tell you not to drink the water that means even when you clean your teeth you dont have to swallow the water it only has to be in your mouth have a nice holiday
I got really good advice. Eat as many lemons as you can get your hands on.
Do not take ice in your drink!
drink only mineral water. don't take ice to your drink, wash fruits and your hand before food

I have large legs- and am dieting. Nothing else on me is really big- any advice on how to get the weight off?

i would do running because that burns fat off your thighs

also try swimming that tones you up really good, and plus it improves your staminaI have large legs- and am dieting. Nothing else on me is really big- any advice on how to get the weight off?
Dieting is key, and cardio. Start using the stairmaster or running or elliptical for 30 min a day. Avoid weights since they'll just build muscle on your already big legs. Its mainly genetics, but if you lose a few lbs and do cardio that involves using your legs and repetitions, you shoulds see some of that weight burn off soon enough.I have large legs- and am dieting. Nothing else on me is really big- any advice on how to get the weight off?
bike! it will tone your legs nicely.

and if you legs look ';bad'; (like mine ';cottage cheese';) then get your legs tan cause then it doesnt show up as much and you dont have to feel as embarassed about them.
Running

Swimming

Stair climber(gym) or running UP a stairs for 1hour(885cal)

Jogging

  • Where I can get free psychic readings/advice?

You can find many generalized forecasts on the net, youtube has several psychics who have video blogs offering free services on a general level.

Unfortunately I can't find anywhere that does personal readings for free, but I would advise checking out the video blogs on Youtube.

Soul Garden TV being one for daily forecasts, also KTtheAstrologer - Weekly could be tarotdotcom (username on youtube) and monthly would probably be barbaragoldsmith

^ Just type the above into the username search.

    Best of luck :)
