When someone asks me a history question, it takes a minute to formulate an answer. How can I change?I love to learn history. But, everytime I try to study, I get overwhelmed by the load of information. Advice?
You may be attempting to memorize history. Do not attempt to do that. Instead think about causes and effects and the relationships between events./I love to learn history. But, everytime I try to study, I get overwhelmed by the load of information. Advice?
I always read my history like it was a novel. For some reason, when I thought of history as a story of real life people it made it easier to answer the questions. This meant more work for me mind you. If we were studying JFK, I found other resources that I could read and plug into what the history book was saying. Etc etc etc. I would ask my parents (if they were alive during that time) what they remembered about that incident. I would check out books about that same subject and read what the encyclopedias had to say.
It was really very interesting. But of course, I was pretty much known to be a history geek in school...................
Study a couple pages of notes a day.
Just read over it casually.
When I really need to know certain things, I write them down again.
For some reason I remember things easier when I write them down.
Don't try to cram it all in one day. ESPECIALLY in one sitting.
Once you start getting bored or overwhelmed, stop for the day.
Go very, very, SLOWLY. A lot of people just don't have a brain that processes at the speed of light. History covers a lot of time, so learning also takes a while.
study only a short time each day. DO NOT try to cram a bunch of information into your head at once. learning a little bit at a time will help you learn more and should pay off in the long run. hope this helps!!
pace yourself and try some memory building excersises....i love history and have a very good memory
