Ok, I want to start running on the treadmill for exercise, but need advice on getting started?

I do have asthma but it's not severe or anything. But I really want to start running on the treadmill. I don't wanna start off too hard b/c I will discourage myself, but I want a good workout so that I will see results as quickly as possible. Any people with fitness training knowledege your advice is deeply appreciated or just any peeps out there. Thanks ahead of time! Any advice?Ok, I want to start running on the treadmill for exercise, but need advice on getting started?
www.runnersworld.com has some great beginning running programs on their site (';training'; link). Like others have said, good shoes are a must or you'll just injure yourself. Expect to pay a bunch for the first pair you get and buy them at a shoe store where you can test them out on a treadmill in the store. Have the salespeople help you with different brands and types of cushioning until you find what works for you. After the first pair, you can find your next pair on sale or online after you know what you want.

Just listen to your body and work gradually. Avoid injury by training smartly.Ok, I want to start running on the treadmill for exercise, but need advice on getting started?
I agree with everyone else, start off slowly. Also, make sure you get good shoes. When you buy them try them on and test them out, jog around a little bit and see how they feel.
Make sure you tie your shoes LOL, simple yet very good advice. Oh, and don't start out running, try a brisk walk until you get used to the pace and then work up to running.
You're best to start off with a walk/run program and merge slowly into a full running program to reduce the risk of injuries. This works well for most people.

Start by walking, up how fast you are walking, then do a walk/run, see how this is doing for you, then start running at a slow pace and go up when you feel comfortable.

Take it slow, you need to build up tolerance/stamina.

Oh, and don't forget your inhaler.
Listen to your body. Most readmills have hear rate moniters, so you can find the zone appropriate for you age and weight, and stick in between the high and low. After about 20 minutes on the treadmill, you will reach the point where you start the fat burning process. You should be very proud of yourself for having the initiative. Pat yourself on the back, get some GOOD running shoes, and go to town.

The best place to shop for shoes is a running shoe store. these people are typically current runners, or ex-runners who know much more than your local sports center stores.

The prices are about the same, but not all feet are. Be good to yourself. I've been running for 20 years. I last longer outside, about 45 mins-1 hour, but on a treadmill, I only do about 30 minutes. Also ,I have discovered that running outside sculpts my body better. Again, be proud, and get started!!!
make sure you have good shoes... (nike shox seem good but they are terrible for running, they give you shinsplints and break up your heels, since nike sponsors so many athletes they only spend a few dollars on each pair of shoes.)make sure the shoes have arch support and arent flat on the bottom. then make sure they're tied tight anough. Start out with 10-20 minutes a day, once your comfortable with that then increase your time and or speed. dont tire yourselft out too much. Try the talk test... if your running and you can talk with out any trouble then your at a good pace, if you cant talk then your being too hard on yourself and if you can scream/ sing loudly then your running too slow. and make sure you stretch before and after you run. i hope i could help :)
yes, it's important to just walk at first so you don't burn out or hurt yourself (especially with asthma). You can actually get a better calorie burn walking very fast (like at 5.0-6.0 on the treadmill speed) than jogging slowly (like 4.0-5.0). But if you want to run, then I'd suggest walking fast for 5 minutes and then running for 2 minutes. And just repeat that cycle many times. Once you get used to that, you can walk for 3 minutes and run for 2 minutes. Good luck!
well try running a mile or walking it for one week. the next week run 1 mile and a half and so on. also try to keep a good diet and drink your 8 glasses of water and you'll see the result in no time.
